The Audio and MIDI Settings under utilities bricks Protools and the Native Drivers, so I can't touch that. Finally got Protools and core audio manager working again, but I'm back to not being able to get surround sound outside of PT.
#Standalone dts decoder pro
Apparently this problem has been around since Pro Tools 7. Instantly fixed PT and the Core Audio Manager. Re-Installed PT twice that day.finally I read ANOTHER article that found that I needed to delete a certain System Library setting (Which for some ungodly reason Apple decided to hide in Lion) that caused the error.

I try to re-enter them, fire out test tones and program crashes! I go to core audio manager, it lost it's connection to the IO box. I go back to Audio and MIDI Settings, it didn't save any of the surround settings. I go back to VLC, it still forces stereo. even had settings for 5.1 and all 8 outputs showed up from the IO, Great! So I assign the output channels to the correct speakers and run a test tone through each channel, it worked briefly. So I went to Audio and MIDI Settings under utilities (bad idea!). It claimed the outputs were not set up for surround. I opened up VLC and attempted to play a DVD in surround, which forced the playback to stereo.

Fantastic, we even had the nice matrix for output so we could choose which outputs are the L&R. We downloaded that and finally got stereo properly working with the help of core audio manager. We discovered through the forums that the card's firmware was out of date and we needed to flash the updated firmware for the Native card. Originally we couldn't even get any application other than Pro Tools to even play through the IO. We are running the latest version of lion so I am wondering if this is an Apple issue or an Avid issue. We are running Protools 10HD, and have a 5.1 system with a bass management controller.

I want to be able to run standalone applications and listen to reference mixes (Possibly DVDs with a decoder, but that's not the primary concern as I know that part is probably not supported by avid due to 3rd party decoders). We are currently trying to get the HD|Native with the 8x8x8 I/O system to play 5.1 outside of protools. I have a rather frustrating problem outside of PT with the HD|Native System.
